Surgery
in Izmir, Turkey

Weight loss surgery, also known as bariatric surgery, is a procedure that helps individuals with severe obesity lose weight. There are several types of weight loss surgery, including gastric bypass, sleeve gastrectomy, and adjustable gastric banding, each with its own set of benefits and potential risks.

Gastric Band

The band placed around the stomach and forming a small pouch upwards is called the gastric band. Since the included pouch will be filled with a small amount of food, the person will be satisfied by eating less than before. The band, connected to a device placed under the skin near the middle of the chest, is tightened by this device after the surgical procedure.

The first tightening of the band is done approximately 4-6 weeks after the surgery. Squeezing is performed by injecting a saline solution into the device with a procedure performed without anesthesia. The band can be tightened several times until the patient reaches the ideal tension.

Gastric bypass is a system in which surgical staples are used instead of stitches to make a small pouch in the upper part of the stomach. The small stomach volume created is connected to the small intestine.

Thus, the other part of the stomach is bypassed. The patient who has this procedure feels full by eating less. The patient who consumes less gets fewer calories at the same time

Sleeve Gastrectomy Surgery

When gastric sleeve surgery is performed, a large part of the patient's stomach is removed. The person has a smaller stomach than they used to. After this procedure, the person cannot eat as much as before and feels full early.

Intragastric Balloon (Gastric Balloon)

In this surgery, a thin tube (gastroscopy) that can pass through the throat and a balloon filled with air or salt water is placed in the patient's stomach.

Thanks to the intragastrical balloon, the patient cannot eat much and gets full without being full. This application is temporary as the balloon can stay in the stomach for 6 months.

Biliopancreatic Diversion

Gastric Biliopancreatic diversion , a treatment similar to bypass, is where part of the stomach is removed, but the remainder is attached to the small intestine at its endpoint. It is not preferred as it has many side effects.
